Broken down in Florida City?

Short answer: call (305) 564-9190. We tow and help stranded drivers all over Florida City, from Palm Drive and the outlet shops to the end of Florida’s Turnpike and the start of the 18-Mile Stretch. Our shop is in neighboring Homestead, and we are licensed and insured.

Florida City is often the last stop before a long drive into the Keys, so a car that has been struggling tends to give out right here. If that just happened to you, take a breath. You are in the right place, and help is a phone call away.

Sound familiar?

  • Stuck at the end of the Turnpike. You pulled off for gas where the Turnpike ends, and now the car will not start again.
  • A flat on the way to the Keys. A tire went flat on US-1 just south of town, right where the road narrows toward the 18-Mile Stretch.
  • Overheating near the park. You are driving Palm Drive to or from Everglades National Park, and the temperature gauge keeps climbing.

We hear stories like these every week. Tell us what happened in your own words, and we will send the right help for it.

Towing around Florida City

Florida City is the last town on the mainland before the Keys. Florida’s Turnpike ends here and joins US-1, and Card Sound Road branches off toward north Key Largo. Palm Drive (SW 344th Street) runs west toward Everglades National Park, and Krome Avenue heads north toward Homestead and beyond.

That mix of highway traffic, park visitors and Keys travelers makes Florida City a busy place to break down. We tow from gas stations, hotel and outlet parking lots, the Turnpike exits, and the shoulders of US-1 and Krome Avenue, and we take your vehicle wherever you choose.

If you break down on the 18-Mile Stretch

The stretch of US-1 between Florida City and Key Largo has long sections with water on both sides and few places to stop. If your car gives out there, use the widest shoulder you can reach, keep your hazard lights on, and tell us the nearest mile marker. The green mile marker signs are the fastest way for us to find you.

Heading south on Card Sound Road?

Card Sound Road is quieter, with long empty stretches. Make sure your phone is charged before you take it, and call us as soon as anything feels wrong rather than waiting for the car to stop.

Why cars break down around Florida City

South Florida is hard on cars, and the drive through Florida City often comes at the end of a long trip. These are the problems we see most around town:

  • Heat. Long summer days push cooling systems and batteries to their limit. An older battery that worked fine in the morning may not start the car after an afternoon parked in the sun.
  • Long highway miles. Drivers coming down the Turnpike have often been on the road for hours. Worn belts, hoses and tires tend to give up near the end of the trip.
  • Heavy rain. Summer storms can flood low spots on local roads quickly. Driving through standing water can stall an engine or hide a pothole that ruins a tire.
  • Running low on fuel. Some drivers try to stretch a tank into the Keys. If you are low, fill up in Florida City before the 18-Mile Stretch.

If your dashboard shows a warning light, or the car starts to feel different, stop somewhere safe in town and call us. It is much easier to help you in a Florida City parking lot than on a narrow stretch of US-1.

Right now, while you wait

  1. Turn on your hazard lights.
  2. If the car still moves and it is safe, get off the road: a gas station, a parking lot or a side street is better than the shoulder of US-1.
  3. On the Turnpike or US-1, stay inside with your seat belt on unless the car is unsafe to stay in. If you get out, use the side away from traffic.
  4. If anyone is hurt, or your car is blocking a lane, call 911 first.
  5. Note where you are: the road, your direction, and the nearest exit, mile marker or cross street such as Palm Drive.

In the summer heat, keep water with you and stay out of direct sun if you have to wait outside the car.
